LECTURE OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand the difference between irritant and allergic occupational contact dermatitis
  2. Describe how to take an occupational history and use clues on physical exam to diagnose and identify possible causal agents of allergic occupational dermatitis
  3. Determine how patch testing can be used to identify causes of occupational allergic contact dermatitis

LECTURE OVERVIEW

In this lecture you will learn the difference between irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. You will learn how to take a dermatitis-focused occupational history and use specific physical examination features to diagnose occupational dermatitis and identify possible culprits. We will also address the benefits and limitations of patch testing and discuss how patch testing can be used to identify causes of occupational contact dermatitis.
