As a Certified Marine Chemist (CMC) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Amy shapes the next generation of safety professionals, blending academic rigor with practical experience gleaned from her career. This month, we are excited to highlight Amy's commitment to excellence and her impact on safety standards in the maritime industry!

Inspiration to Teach Health and Safety

When asked what inspires her to teach health and safety, Amy replied:

"What I love the most about facilitating the OSHA maritime course is that I learn from each session I facilitate.  I am able to share my experiences from the workplace often times finish with a new perspective because the professionals enrolled in the courses bring their diverse experiences to the conversations.  I've found that connecting and learning from others has made me into a safer worker on the job.  "

Professional Journey

Amy's professional journey is defined by a dedication to safety and excellence in the maritime industry. Amy conducts vessel inspections in compliance with the NFPA Standard 306. She also instructs OSHA-based safety courses, including Shipyard Competent Person, Confined Space Entry, Fire Watch, and HAZWOPER for maritime settings. Amy’s passion for teaching is fueled by the diverse experiences shared by course participants, enhancing safety practices for all. 

Academic and Current Role

Amy has a strong academic background in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and environmental health. She is one of the few women in the country who has earned the credential as a Certified Marine Chemist (CMC). She also earned the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing, demonstrating her commitment to high standards in workplace safety. She actively volunteers with the following organizations: 

• Society of Port Engineers – Puget Sound
• Puget Sound Shipbuilders Association
• Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Health and Safety (MACOSH)
• Seattle Fire Department Fire Code Advisory Board (FCAB)
