Inspiration to Teach Green Chemistry and Stewardship
In her words, Cathy is inspired to teach Green Chemistry and Stewardship for the following reason:

Professional Background and Impact
Cathy is the Founder & Principal of Safer Chemistry Advisory, a woman-owned and operated consultancy that leverages scientific expertise to lead organizations to safer, functional chemicals backed by science. She is the instructor for Course 2 of the Green Chemistry and Chemical Stewardship Program: Assessment Tools for Safer Chemical Decisions.
Her work spans various sectors, including cleaning, personal care, textiles, and others, with a focus on addressing PFAS across industry sectors.
In her role as a multi-disciplinary chemical assessor, Cathy utilizes innovative methods like in silico modeling, read across, and non-animal approaches to evaluate chemical alternatives with limited data. She actively promotes the use of functional and safer alternatives, integrating the principles of chemical alternatives assessment and informed substitution into her professional practice. Cathy’s work with government and outreach agencies underscores her commitment to incorporating safer chemical strategies into public and corporate policies.
In her prior role at SRC’s globally-recognized Environmental Health Analysis group, she worked with clients such as the U.S. EPA, National Library of Medicine, Washington Department of Ecology, and global corporations like Nike. She worked with the U.S. EPA Safer Choice Program, one of the most impactful eco-labels on the market. She supported various Safer Choice initiatives, notably the publication and expansion of the Safer Chemical Ingredients List.
