Experience at the University of Washington
New OSH responsibilities in his workplace presented opportunities for professional growth and continuing education. He opted to enroll in the UW General Industry Safety & Health Leadership Certificate to increase his knowledge, skill, and ability, and to gain an understanding of supervisory and leadership responsibilities for general industry activities.
In his own words, regarding the Accelerating Leadership course: "My course attendance has increased my ability to operate in today’s OSH environment and provided me with insight about my leadership effectiveness while increasing my developmental readiness in motivating others."
Professional Background and Impact
Gordon is a 30-year fire officer with extensive experience in fast-paced emergency response environments and serves as the designated Health and Safety Officer for Alaska’s largest fire department. In his revised HSO role, he manages all OSHA-related programs in support of 430 line and administrative personnel.
