Meet Student Hala Shonouda

Hala Shonouda expanded her understanding of how safety, health, and well-being are interconnected by participating in Total Worker Health®: Advancing Well-Being in the Workplace course. This course covered how organizations can create safer, healthier, and more supportive work environments, reinforcing the importance of looking beyond individual incidents to consider leadership, work design, employee engagement, and organizational practices.

This experience led to an opportunity to collaborate on a project with graduate students from Portland State University’s Organizational Psychology and Occupational Health and Safety program exploring public service challenges faced by library staff within her organization. Applying Total Worker Health principles, students analyzed workplace challenges and made recommendations focused on strengthening safety practices, supporting employee well-being, and enhancing organizational processes.
