Chemical storage tanks are among the most critical—and often most misunderstood—systems in industrial facilities. Failures involving above ground storage tanks have resulted in catastrophic fires, toxic releases, community evacuations, environmental damage, worker fatalities, and significant regulatory penalties. Safety professionals are often expected to understand a complex web of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, fire codes, industry standards, and process safety principles that govern these systems.
This course provides practical guidance for identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing safeguards for aboveground chemical storage tanks. Learn how chemical properties, tank design, operating conditions, mechanical integrity, and human factors contribute to incidents and failures. Use of real-world case studies, regulatory examples, and practical exercises. Develop the skills to assess tank systems, identify deficiencies, apply OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and API requirements, and implement risk-based strategies that protect workers, facilities, and surrounding communities.
