INSTRUCTOR HIGHLIGHT

Gina Facca

Meet this month's instructor! As an EHS leader, Gina is known for her success in crafting safety-conscious environments, translating policies into effective programs, and reducing injuries and claims across many industries, fostering a safety-driven culture at every level.

"I have loved sharing knowledge with others my entire SHE career and find that being an instructor for UW's OSHA Outreach program gives me another opportunity to share information with many people I have not met before. As someone who has applied SHE in Construction, General Industry, Maritime, and Mining, I have been seen as outspoken and annoying for stopping work and explaining the "why" behind applying proper safety technology and different approaches to getting the work done without injury. The information provided through the OSHA Outreach training is based on regulation, and the conversations during the classes provide everyone with access to how to create a work environment where everyone gets to go home to their families at the end of the day."

LATEST NEWS

In observance of Public Health Week, we commend the recent ban on chrysotile asbestos in the US, as announced by the EPA. This landmark rule represents a crucial step forward in protecting public and occupational health.

"As former chair of the American Public Health Association(APHA) Occupational Health and Safety section, I proudly support this action, reflecting the advocacy efforts of our members. Our section has diligently provided legislators and decision-makers with crucial information about the health risks posed by asbestos exposure, along with safer alternatives. Together, we continue to prioritize public health and advocate for positive change."

- Nancy Simcox, Director of the UW Occupational Safety & Health Continuing Education programs.
