April Spotlight honors workers who have lost their lives due to workplace injuries. Remember that behind every incident is a person, a family, and a community impacted by loss. Whether you’re driving, walking, working, or enjoying time off, stay aware of your surroundings and follow established safety procedures. Looking out for one another is simple but powerful to act to help prevent injuries and save lives.
Safety is not just a policy—it’s a shared responsibility and a commitment to protecting each other, every day.

Since 1990, L&I pauses to honor the men and women who have died due to job-related injuries and illnesses. On April 28, representatives of government, business, and labor will join L&I staff to remember the fallen workers and recommit our efforts to do all we can so every Washington worker comes home at the end of their shift.

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 389 of the 1,034 construction fatalities recorded in 2024 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

This special ceremony will raise awareness about how we can strengthen our commitment to make jobs safer and save lives in Washington State. April 27th, 2026, Noon to 12:45pm.

Police work can have many occupational risks, including exposures during weapons training. Firearm suppressors are increasingly adopted by law enforcement for hearing protection, and impact on breathing-zone lead exposure during indoor range training is not well characterized. Dr. Mohammad Fidahusain's work on a pilot field study evaluated breathing-zone airborne lead and noise exposures among four law enforcement officers.

OSHA #3015 Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics

This course covers the OSHA Excavation Standard and safety and health aspects of excavation and trenching. Course topics include practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations, introduction of various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic), soil classification, and use of protective systems.

OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion.

FREE Webinar: Development & Evolution of a WISHA 10 Cannabis Training

Cannabis workers trim, harvest, package, and process plant material in ways that can expose them to a variety of hazards, like respiratory and ergonomic risks, that often go unnoticed. Juliana Moreno will share her presentation bringing visibility to those risks and drawing on early lessons from developing a cannabis-specific WISHA10 training module designed to strengthen health and safety practices across this rapidly growing and unique industry.
