May is recognized as Fall Protection Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about one of the leading causes of serious workplace injuries and fatalities. Falls remain a significant hazard across many industries, particularly in construction, utilities, emergency response, and maintenance work. Effective fall prevention is not just about compliance, it is about protecting lives, strengthening safety culture, and ensuring every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.

Fall Prevention & OSHA Support

When working from heights, employers must plan projects to ensure that the job is done safely. Begin by deciding how the job will be done, what tasks will be involved, and what safety equipment may be needed to complete each task.

Falls happen in construction, agriculture, manufacturing, transportation and other industries that involve working from height. OSHA has developed a website to provide workers and employers useful, up-to-date information on fall protection.

Meet Liz Guzy, OSHCE Assistant Director for Program Operations. Liz's passion for safety is demonstrated in her dedication to students and instructors.
We asked Liz what a typical day looks like for her in OSHCE.

A typical day involves multitasking to meet the demands of the day to day program along with the fun in building relationships with instructors and students.
The Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center serves a large region offering in person and online courses requiring coordination with our regional partners and attention to detail in delivering stellar courses. I enjoy assisting students in finding courses or certificate programs that will benefit their unique roles in the safety field and supporting instructors in a smooth delivery of their safety courses.
A benefit of my job is learning from safety professionals around the region and working on ways to improve our courses. I enjoy all aspects of my role from troubleshooting Zoom connectivity issues to evaluating new methods of course delivery.

OSHA #2264 Permit-Required Confined Space Entry

This course covers the safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. Course topics include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, use of instrumentation to evaluate atmospheric hazards, ventilation techniques, development and implementation of a confined space program, proper signage, and training requirements.

Emergency Safety Officer Course

This course prepares personnel serving as Safety Officers, Assistant Safety Officers, and other ICS roles to identify and manage physical and psychosocial hazards that affect workers and responders at disaster sites. Participants apply safety and incident command principles in a disaster scenario, using ICS methodology to develop and evaluate safety and medical plans, safety messages, and safety analyses (e.g., ICS 206, 208, and 215A).

OSHA #5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry
July 13 - 17, 2026 | 8:00 am - 4:00 pm | Online Virtual Classroom
This course covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for the maritime industry. Using the OSHA Maritime Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those areas in the maritime industry which are most hazardous. Upon course completion students will define maritime terms found in the OSHA Maritime Standards, identify hazards in the maritime industry and determine appropriate controls and abatement, locate OSHA Maritime Standards, policies and procedures, and describe the use of the OSHA Maritime Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.
