September is Suicide Prevention Month
|
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen our commitment to protecting not only physical safety, but also mental health in the workplace.
For safety and health professionals, this month is a reminder that injury prevention goes beyond preventing falls, chemical exposures, or infections—it also includes recognizing and addressing psychosocial risks such as stress, burnout, and isolation.
Work-related stressors, long hours, high-risk tasks, and cultural barriers to seeking help can all increase vulnerability to suicide in many industries. By creating psychologically safe environments, fostering open communication, and ensuring access to resources like employee assistance programs, crisis lines, and peer support, we can make a difference.
